The Dawn of a New Aston Martin Era
On June 20th, Aston Martin announced the new "Vanquish," the successor to the current DBS. This is the production version of the concept "Project AM310" unveiled at the historic car event "Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este" held at Italy's Lake Como in May. The announcement comes at a pivotal moment, timed for Aston Martin's 100th anniversary in 2013.
Dr. Ulrich Bez, CEO of Aston Martin, stated about the new generation Vanquish, "This is a flagship model that embodies the spirit, engineering, and all that Aston Martin has built to date, offering the ultimate driving experience." Its styling is rich with curves, featuring a beautifully sculpted waistline that flares elegantly over the rear fenders. The design of the LED taillights and rear spoiler, along with the low, sharp front splitter, shows a strong influence from the limited-edition "One-77" The cabin, over 60% larger than the previous DBS, can be ordered as a two-seater or, optionally, a 2+2, ensuring a comfortable space for long drives. The interior design has also been completely revamped.
The body dimensions are 4,720mm in length, 2,067mm in width, and 1,294mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,740mm. The vehicle weighs 1,739kg. The chassis utilizes the new generation VH architecture, an evolution of the aluminum VH monocoque introduced with the "DB9" in 2003. For the first time in an Aston Martin production model, the body panels are formed from carbon fiber. According to the official announcement, torsional rigidity has improved by over 25% compared to the previous "DBS."
Priced at £190,000
The engine is an upgraded version of the 6.0-liter V12, delivering a maximum output of 573ps at 6,750rpm and a peak torque of 620Nm (approx. 63.2kgm) at 5,500rpm. It achieves 0-100km/h in 4.1 seconds and a top speed of 295km/h. The transmission is Aston Martin's 6-speed automatic "Touchtronic 2." The price is £189,995, which was just under 24 million yen as of June 20th. Deliveries are scheduled to begin within 2012, starting in the UK and other major European markets. With Aston Martin's 100th anniversary approaching in 2013, the marque is certainly one to watch.
