Sales to Begin in 2012
Unveiled at last year's 2010 Paris Motor Show, the Renault "ZOE PREVIEW," a compact five-door hatchback EV, is now slated for a 2012 sales launch. Renault aims to price it comparably to the diesel version of its currently available Clio model (sold in Japan as the Lutecia).
The body measures 4,086mm long, 1,788mm wide, and 1,540mm high, with a wheelbase of 2,575mm, and it is equipped with 19-inch wheels. It's a compact design that fits within the European B-segment.
The motor produces a maximum output of 60kW (80hp) and a peak torque of 22.6kgm, achieving 0-100km/h in 8.1 seconds and a top speed of 135km/h. The lithium-ion battery onboard offers a maximum range of 160km on a single charge.
Charging time is between 3.5 to 8 hours for a standard charge using a household outlet. At charge points located roadside, in shopping centers, or parking lots, charging can be completed in a short 30 minutes.
The distinctive exterior, with its flowing lines from the white-based front to the rear, balances design and functionality. Graphics inspired by electronic circuits are etched into various parts of the car, including the ceiling, door handles, and seats. A unique feature is the door opening mechanism, activated by touching the circuit graphic embedded in the door panel. Additionally, lines on theティアドロップシェイプ (teardrop shape) rear and hood reduce aerodynamic drag.
Next-Generation Cabin Environment Management
The interior features a panel displaying speed and battery level in three colors. The Carminat TomTom® Live navigation system provides information on nearby charge points. An fully automatic climate control system manages temperature and humidity automatically.
Linked with the detox effector function, which controls air intake opening via sensors, the system ensures the cabin air remains clean by preventing the entry of harmful substances. An aroma diffuser is also included, realizing next-generation comfort in cabin environment management.
Europe is also focusing on developing infrastructure to promote EV adoption. With projections estimating 75,000 charge points across Western Europe by 2015 through collaboration between governments and public organizations, the spread of EVs in Europe appears poised for growth.
