Nissan's Vision for an EV City Commuter
At the 42nd Tokyo Motor Show 2011, Nissan will unveil its vision for a near-future EV commuter, the "PIVO 3."

Nissan's Concept of the Automobile as a Social Entity
Leading the Worldthe mass-produced EV "Leaf"Nissan, which launched the mass-produced EV "Leaf," now presents the "PIVO 3," a near-future city commuter, as part of its long-term commitment to popularizing zero-emission mobility. The concept aims to demonstrate the ideal form of EVs beyond mere economy and environmental compatibility.
The PIVO 3 illustrates how EVs, connected to cloud computing, smart cities, and smart grids, can seamlessly fulfill both individual and societal needs. This aligns perfectly with the SNV concept advocated by OPENERS.SNVconcept.
The Future in Collaboration with AVP
The most distinctive feature of the PIVO 3 is its "parking" capability. Through Automated Valet Parking (AVP), which will be possible through the integration of EVs with future smart cities, the PIVO 3 can autonomously navigate to a charging station or contribute to regional power stabilization while the owner is shopping or working. Upon completion of their tasks, users can summon the PIVO 3 back to the AVP exit using their mobile phones or smartphones. This AVP concept represents a significant advancement beyond park-and-ride and car-sharing, promising greater personal freedom while contributing to the public good and enhancing environmental consideration.
An EV for Everyone
The PIVO 3 is less than three meters long and features a 1+2 seating layout, accommodating one person in the front and two in the rear.
Its compact body, equipped with in-wheel motors (IWM), achieves an exceptionally small turning radius. Furthermore, the entire vehicle can pass through narrow spaces once the front wheels have cleared, without any part of the body making contact. This means that even if one accidentally turns into a narrow road, a U-turn is possible with a road width of just 4 meters.
Furthermore, guided by its philosophy of "Friendly Innovation," Nissan aims to provide "cutting-edge technology" that is "truly intuitive and easy to use." One manifestation of this is the "Robotic Agent" interface. The Robotic Agent, by organizing information and delivering it to the driver in a timely manner, allows for the constant selection of information that matches the latest status of both the driver and the PIVO 3. Nissan proudly asserts that this transcends the existing concept of an automobile, representing an intelligent entity with an intimate relationship with its user.
Beyond V2H
The Nissan Leaf proposed a lifestyle free from the need to visit gas stations through home charging, and further paved the way for power supply to homes with "LEAF to HOME." In the PIVO 3, this "home" has been replaced by the "city." When smart cities, cloud computing, and EVs begin to integrate and collaborate, a future beyond imagination will unfold.
