Suited for Urban Road Conditions

The "TOYOTA i-ROAD" is a two-seater ultra-compact electric vehicle with the theme of "compact and exhilarating mobility," offering motorcycle-like usability and a novel riding experience.

Its lightweight and compact body is said to address various needs, including traffic problems such as alleviating congestion in urban areas and solving parking space shortages, in addition to its ease of handling. As an electric vehicle, it has zero running emissions. It can travel up to 50 km on a single charge.

When the "i-ROAD" is in motion, its most striking feature is the newly developed "Active Lean Mechanism," which automatically controls the vehicle's tilt when turning left or right, much like a motorcycle. This not only contributes to stability even with its slim 850mm width but also delivers an "exhilarating ride with a sense of unity" on a different level from cars or motorcycles, according to announcements.

Furthermore, the adoption of a closed body with a roof and doors allows it to be used regardless of the weather. Although the vehicle tilts when cornering like a motorcycle, wearing a helmet is not required.

The 86 Open and Auris Hybrid Also Make an Appearance!

In addition to the "i-ROAD," Toyota's booth also featured the"FT-86 Open concept", and"Auris Hybrid Touring Sports". While the Auris is certainly noteworthy, the "FT-86 Open" also boasts a design with a realism that suggests it will go into production almost as-is, despite the "concept" in its name. We eagerly await its release.
