In Europe, the Fiat "city lounge" "500L" has received 38,000 orders in the past five months. Now, the "500L Trekking," featuring an off-road-oriented look and equipment for those who love sports and outdoor activities, is being added.
While retaining the 500L's space and functionality, the "Traction+" technology is incorporated to handle slippery surfaces, despite being front-wheel drive. This system, an extension of the Electronic Stability Control (ESC), replicates the action of a self-locking differential through brake control. It activates at speeds below 30 km/h with the press of a button.
The exterior is styled in an SUV-like fashion, with 17-inch wheels fitted with mud and snow tires. The interior features a base of fabric seats combined with leather, with three patterns available: a more outdoor-oriented grey fabric with leather, or a sophisticated black fabric with white leather inserts.
Engine options include a 95 hp 1.4-liter four-cylinder, a 105 hp 0.9-liter "TwinAir" turbo, a 105 hp 1.6-liter four-cylinder "MultiJet II" turbo diesel, and an 85 hp 1.3-liter "MultiJet II" turbo diesel. The 105 hp 1.6-liter MultiJet II turbo diesel, with its excellent fuel efficiency, is said to be the best match for the 500L Trekking. With this engine, the vehicle achieves a top speed of 175 km/h, accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 12.0 seconds, consumes 4.7 L/100km, and emits 122 g/km of CO2.
Additionally, the 500L is known forthe ability to enjoy authentic Italian espresso onboard, the dedicated 500L espresso machine by Lavazza, which has garnered attention. This will also be available as an option for the 500L Trekking at 249 euros, just like the standard model.
Furthermore, it is equipped with "City Brake Control," which automatically applies the brakes upon detecting an obstacle ahead, compensating for delayed driver reactions.
This system operates at speeds below 30 km/h. Based on the driver's actions and the vehicle's status, if the driver is attempting an evasive maneuver and can avoid the accident, the system either allows the driver to maintain control or assists with braking. If an accident is unavoidable, the driver is reacting slowly, or the danger is not perceived, the system automatically avoids or mitigates the accident.
The 500L Trekking will have its world premiere at the Geneva Motor Show, with sales in Europe commencing in June.
At the Geneva Motor Show, Fiat will also exhibit other models, including the "500 GQ," a collaboration model with Condé Nast's "GQ," a special color model of thePanda 4x4, and the EV version of the 500, the "500e".
