Renault Design Renaissance

The Kangoo is Renault's compact leisure vehicle. Its ease of use and excellent space utility have made it popular as a business vehicle in Europe, and since the first generation was launched in 1998, it has become Renault's best-selling model, with approximately 900,000 units sold. The currentKangoo is the second generation, which underwent a full model change in 2007.

One of the highlights of this minor change is the exterior modification. The front, based on Renault's new design identity "Renault Design Renaissance," features the Renault logo at the center with horizontal lines connecting to the headlights, a design inherited from the concept car "DeZir."Clio (Lutecia in Japan)The design is also adopted in the "Clio (Japanese name: Lutecia)." Not only the front but also the door mirrors and rear combination lamps have been redesigned.

The interior also shows a design direction shared with the Clio, such as the center section, including the air conditioning and audio, being enclosed in a design. The steering wheel is the same as that used in Renault's C-segment car, the "Scenic," which also shares its chassis with the Kangoo.

Renault explains that measures have been taken to address various noises generated by the spacious interior. Additional padding has been added to the sound insulation, the new body design minimizes wind noise, and the adoption of a new engine, the largest source of noise, reduces overall noise levels, thereby improving cabin quietness.

In terms of functional equipment, it features "Hill Start Assist" which automatically applies the brakes until the accelerator is pressed when starting on a slope, preventing rollback; "Start & Stop," an idling stop system, and its management system "ESM (Energy Smart Management)"; "Energy Recovery" for reusing deceleration energy; the Renault R-Link multimedia terminal; and audio with USB and Bluetooth connectivity.

Furthermore, the newly equipped "Extended Grip" is a function that, when switched on while driving on slippery surfaces such as mud or snow, allows the ESC to switch to a dedicated control mode for easy escape from difficult terrain at low speeds.

The engine lineup includes the 1.5-liter inline 4-cylinder diesel turbo engines "Energy dCi 75" and "Energy dCi 90," boasting CO2 emissions below 112g/km and fuel consumption below 4.3ℓ/100km, as well as the "Energy dCi 110" with a maximum output of 110ps, and the 1.2-liter inline 4-cylinder gasoline turbo engine "Energy TCe 115" with a maximum output of 115ps.

Additionally, it is equipped with an "Eco Mode" to improve fuel efficiency. When the mode is activated, engine torque is optimized, and the shift change indicator and accelerator pedal response curve are adjusted for fuel efficiency. This mode is said to improve fuel consumption by 10 percent in diesel engine vehicles.

The new Kangoo will be available in eight standard colors, including the new shades Mineral White, Cassiopeia Grey, and Silver Grey.

In France, orders will begin on February 28th, with the public unveiling at theGeneva Motor Show.
