Naturally, a V8 OHV Engine
The undisputed star of this show is undoubtedly this: the new Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, the seventh generation, which has once again revived the Stingray name.
The new Corvette adopts the classic front-engine, rear-drive proportions of a long nose and short deck, but its details have been thoroughly refined for an exceptionally modern finish. Details like the rear window not wrapping around the body sides, the presence of rear quarter windows instead, and the taillights no longer being circular might initially surprise traditional fans. However, with such a beloved model, any change is bound to spark discussion – it's the Corvette's destiny.
Internally, it's equally innovative. The body utilizes a new aluminum frame combined with carbon materials for thorough weight reduction, achieving a perfect 50:50 front-to-rear weight distribution.
The engine is, of course, a V8 OHV. This 6.2-liter unit produces a maximum output of 450 horsepower, with 0-60 mph acceleration under 4 seconds. Notably, it also incorporates the first-ever 7-speed manual gearbox and a cylinder deactivation system to improve fuel efficiency.
This new Corvette Stingray is slated for release in the third quarter of this year. While the introduction timing to Japan is undecided, the model name will remain Corvette, as before. As you may know, the Stingray name is unfortunately already in use by a certain mini-car. It's not a trademark issue, but rather an image concern, that has led to its non-use. It's a bit of a shame, isn't it?
