MDX Prototype Nears Production
OPENERS had alreadypublished preliminary informationon the "MDX Prototype," which was unveiled at the Detroit Motor Show. This model previews the next-generation "MDX" with its next-generation design front grille and LED headlights called "Jewel Eye," and is actually scheduled for sale in the United States from mid-2013.
It is a large, 7-seater luxury SUV, but its overall height has been reduced by 1.5 inches from the current model without sacrificing interior space. The powertrain is a 3.5-liter direct-injection SOHC i-VTEC V6 engine.
NSX Concept's Interior Revealed
Last year, the concept car debuted at the Detroit Motor Showand there was an announcement regarding the "NSX," for which further details were awaited. As previously reported, it will feature a mid-ship mounted next-generation direct-injection VTEC V6 engine, combined with a dual-clutch transmission incorporating high-efficiency motors, and a hybrid four-wheel-drive system "SPORT HYBRID SH-AWD (Super Handling - All Wheel Drive)" that drives the front wheels independently via separate motors. There are no major changes to the basic styling of the lightweight body.
However, a closer look at the photos released this time reveals changes in the shape of the front grille, wheels, and around the front fenders, as well as slight modifications around the headlights. The grille shape is now a honeycomb. Looking at the rear, the part segmentation appears to have changed, altering the position of the panel lines, and there are also minor changes to the taillights.
The interior is revealed for the first time. The cockpit is what Honda calls the "Human Support Cockpit," which boasts wide visibility, an exotic driving position, and an intuitive interface. It extensively uses carbon fiber, lending it the persuasive appeal of a modern supercar.
The center console, lined with buttons, includes switches that appear to be for changing damper settings and a switch labeled "SPORT," suggesting the ability to select driving modes according to the situation.
The long-awaited super sports car "NSX," scheduled for production in 2015. After a year, it gives the impression of being closer to the production model.
