The Future Imagined by Infiniti Emerg-E

Infiniti, Nissan Motor Corporation's luxury brand for overseas markets, has unveiled the "Emerg-E," a sports concept that is an electric vehicle equipped with an engine for power generation, a so-called range extender EV, at the Geneva Motor Show.

Born from Collaboration with UK Government Agencies

Equipped with one 1.2-liter, 3-cylinder gasoline engine for power generation and two 150kW motors, this is Infiniti's first mid-ship sports car, boasting a total motor output of 300kW. It accelerates the approximately 1,600kg vehicle from a standstill to 100km/h in about 4 seconds, and to 200km/h in about 30 seconds. This is the Infiniti "Emerg-E" unveiled on this occasion.

With its onboard battery, it can achieve approximately 30 miles of zero-emission driving. When the power generation engine is activated, it can travel ten times that distance, around 3,000 miles, with CO2 emissions of 55g/km.

This concept was born from Infiniti's response to the intentions of the UK's Technology Strategy Board, a government-related agency seeking vehicles with minimal CO2 emissions in urban areas, while Infiniti sought a sports car capable of flagship performance.

The Technology Strategy Board, which took the initiative, aims to bring technologies from universities and OEM suppliers, which possess pioneering capabilities despite not having large markets, to commercial viability and to rapidly expand the low-CO2 vehicle market. Although the Emerg-E is a concept car produced in only two units, the technologies used here will be shared among the members of the consortium created for the project, and may appear in other forms of automobiles.

The power generation engine is provided by Lotus, which was also planning a range extender EV and chose to cooperate with the Emerg-E project.

The design was primarily created by Nissan Design Europe in Paddington, London, under the direction of Shiro Nakamura, Chief Creative Officer of Nissan Motor Corporation. Manufacturing was carried out at the Nissan European Technical Centre in Cranfield. A notable feature is that this is Infiniti's first European-developed vehicle.
