Nissan's Japan Flagship Model
The fourth-generation Elgrand, which was previewed at the Japan Mobility Show 2025 last year, has been released.

The heart of the vehicle is Nissan's proprietary third-generation e-POWER hybrid system. It consists of a newly designed, highly efficient engine dedicated to generating electricity and a 5-in-1 e-POWER electric drive unit that integrates five key components—motor, generator, inverter, and reduction gear—into a single unit.

The platform has also been significantly improved from the previous generation. A highly rigid body and sound-insulating structure enhance both quietness and fuel efficiency.
The drivetrain employs the evolved e-4ORCE electronic all-wheel-control technology. In addition to integrated control of the motor and brakes, it reportedly improves cornering performance by actively utilizing torque from the rear motor. The status of motor output and braking during driving can be confirmed on the meter display, allowing for real-time recognition of driving information.
Furthermore, the adoption of Intelligent Dynamic Suspension, which variably controls the damping force of all four wheels according to driving conditions, and six drive modes enable driving suited to any scenario.

Other features include a Smooth Stop function that suppresses vehicle sway immediately after stopping to reduce passenger posture changes, and the world's first Active Noise Control, which reduces not only engine noise but also road noise. These are features befitting Nissan's Japan flagship model.
The exterior also features a distinctive presence befitting the Elgrand. It is larger than the previous generation, and as the design concept "Timeless Japanese Futurism" suggests, the front grille's kumiko-inspired design captivates the eye.

The wheels are fitted with resin finishers, achieving a level of intricate beauty reminiscent of traditional Japanese crafts that would be difficult to express with aluminum wheels alone, and creating a unified look with the entire vehicle. This is a point where unique aesthetic sensibilities are reflected while pursuing weight reduction.
Nissan states that the interior aims to create a space akin to a special private lounge. The interior space has been significantly expanded from the previous generation, and the sliding doors incorporate large windows. Combined with the theater layout, where the eye-line gradually rises from the first to the third row, efforts have been made to create a sense of openness.

Nissan's proprietary Zero Gravity Seats are used for all seats. The second-row seats are wide enough for adults to turn over, and the ottoman can be used simultaneously by three passengers—the front passenger and the left and right second-row seats—making them designed for reduced fatigue even on long journeys. Additionally, a half-open function for the sliding doors allows them to open only halfway, preventing rain or other elements from entering when passengers are boarding or alighting in bad weather. The luggage compartment can accommodate seven carry-on sized suitcases even with seven passengers seated.

Usability for modern life has also been improved. The center console can charge two smartphones simultaneously. Three 100V AC power outlets (1500W) are also equipped, usable as emergency power sources for outdoor activities or during disasters.
A large 14.3-inch integrated infotainment display is centrally located on the instrument panel. With the Google-equipped NissanConnect infotainment system, it supports Google Maps, Google Assistant, and Google Play, enabling seamless connection to a wide range of information and entertainment.

Furthermore, notable advancements include the "Forgetting Alert," which notifies your smartphone if you forget to lock the doors, turn off the hazard lights, or close the windows, and "Remote Photo Shot," which automatically photographs the car's surroundings and notifies your smartphone if it detects any abnormalities, such as impacts to the vehicle. These features enhance safety and convenience both inside and outside the car.
The model is available in two grades: X e-4ORCE and G e-4ORCE. In addition to four monotone body colors—Prism White, Shigoku, Dark Metal Grey, and Midnight Black—there are five special two-tone options, including "FUJI DAWN," which expresses the natural beauty of the fleeting moment of dawn at Mt. Fuji, and "SHIGOKU," inspired by colors that have traditionally symbolized nobility and high status in Japan.
The price for the X e-4ORCE is ¥6,897,000, and for the G e-4ORCE, it is ¥7,579,000.

Learn More About the Nissan Elgrand
Q1. What led to the Elgrand's first full model change in 16 years?
The first generation, introduced in May 1997, pioneered the "luxury minivan" segment with its front-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout and a low, flat floor while maintaining a car-like proportion. The second generation followed in 2002, and the third in August 2010. However, the third generation remained unchanged for 16 years. The fourth-generation model was previewed at the Japan Mobility Show 2025 in October 2025 and its release was highly anticipated.
Q2. What is the concept behind the "Timeless Japanese Futurism" design?
Elements like the kumiko-motif grille and new colors such as "FUJI DAWN" are not mere reproductions of traditional Japanese motifs but are positioned as a design language translated into contemporary forms. The aim is to create a timeless design that is not overtly Japanese but possesses a universality and durability, befitting Nissan's flagship model in Japan with its refined aesthetics and craftsmanship.
Q3. The body size has increased from the previous generation; what was the objective?
The increase of 30mm in length, 45mm in width, and 160mm in height aims to balance stable grand touring performance with a spacious interior. Additionally, the adoption of a "theater layout," where seating positions gradually rise from front to rear, provides all occupants with a comfortable and open environment.
