Honda Unveils NSX Concept

A New Generation of Hybrid Super Sports

The NSX Concept is a next-generation hybrid super sports concept developed as the base model for the second-generation NSX. It features a newly developed hybrid system, "Sport Hybrid SH-AWD® (Super Handling All Wheel Drive)," which combines a next-generation V6 VTEC direct-injection engine mounted mid-ship in a lightweight body with a highly efficient motor. This is a 4WD hybrid model that drives the front wheels with two independent motors and the rear wheels with the V6 engine.

The biggest topic is Honda's unique torque-vectoring control system, which independently controls the torque on the left and right sides to generate the necessary force for cornering, enabling on-the-rails cornering. At the same time, it is said to achieve excellent environmental and fuel efficiency.

The super sports based on the NSX Concept is scheduled to go on sale in the U.S. within three years, with plans for a gradual global rollout.

New Compact Sedan and Second-Generation RDX Also Unveiled

The company also unveiled the ILX Concept, a new compact luxury sedan, and the RDX Prototype, the second generation of the model. The ILX Concept is a design study for a sporty compact sedan developed as an entry-level model for the Acura brand, which Honda operates in North America and China. The powertrain lineup includes a 2.0-liter and a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder gasoline engine, as well as a 1.5-liter hybrid, the first for Acura. The production model based on this vehicle is scheduled for release in the spring of 2012.

The new RDX features a longer wheelbase and wider track than the current model, balancing a spacious cabin and cargo area with a stylish design, positioning it as a compact CUV (Crossover Utility Vehicle) as described by Honda. The powertrain will be switched from the current 2.3-liter inline 4-cylinder turbo to a 3.5-liter V6 gasoline engine. The release is scheduled for the spring of 2012.
