Dubbed the Boxster E, this prototype electric Boxster was built in three units and will undergo further testing.

While Porsche has not revealed all the details, it is equipped with a 29 kWh battery powering two electric motors, producing a maximum output of 180 kW (245 ps). Although the power specifications are close to the Boxster's 188 kW (255 ps) engine, its performance is said to be closer to the Boxster S, with 0-60 mph acceleration in 5.0 seconds and a top speed of 274 km/h.

Porsche has not stated whether the Boxster E will be commercially produced, referring to it only as a "mobile laboratory." However, it is not purely a concept car, and Porsche has hinted that some users may actually experience the Boxster E.

Furthermore, Stuttgart, Porsche's headquarters, is one of eight locations in Germany selected as "Electric Mobility Regions." The German Federal Ministry of Transport has invested 130 million euros in this economic stimulus package, indicating that the initiative for electric vehicles is a large project extending beyond just Porsche.

In light of this, at the announcement of the Boxster E, the Minister-President of Baden-Württemberg, Stefan Mappus, stated, "We want to further advance sustainable mobility in the automotive industry here in Stuttgart. Porsche is a key partner in developing high-tech products and promoting electric vehicles in the state, playing an important role in the sports car segment."

Until now, electric sports cars have been Tesla's domain, but the true contender has finally made its move. We will be watching Porsche's future developments with keen interest.
