A watch embodying engineering, performance, and brand aesthetics

Porsche Design introduces the new "1919 Chronotimer Flyback Blue & Leather," pairing a dial with a delicate, mystical blue hue with a strap crafted from Porsche car interior leather. Much like the legendary Porsche 911, a benchmark of automotive excellence, this chronograph watch merges uncompromising functionality with meticulous design down to every detail, presenting a sporty yet expressive appearance.
This piece carries on the tradition of the "Chronograph I," the company's first wristwatch, unveiled in 1972 by designer Professor Ferdinand Alexander Porsche. The large, high-contrast dial prioritizes legibility and readability. The design focuses attention on the essential elements of timekeeping and measurement. Clean Arabic numerals and bold markers, enhanced with Super-LumiNova®, ensure easy readability even in poor lighting conditions or at night. The sapphire crystal, treated with seven layers of hard coating on both sides, prevents all light reflections, guaranteeing optimal legibility at all times.
The movement is the Porsche Design caliber WERK 01.200. This chronograph caliber is equipped with a flyback function, allowing for the measurement of consecutive time intervals, such as lap times on a race track. The automatic movement, oscillating at 4 Hz, embodies watchmaking that fuses engineering and automotive manufacturing expertise. The fascinating mechanism, including the flyback function, can be admired through the sapphire crystal case back.
In true Porsche Design fashion, the movement is finished in black. The rotor, designed to optimize energy transfer, is PVD-coated and partially made of tungsten. This exceptionally difficult-to-machine material provides the rotor with the necessary weight to ensure powerful winding.
The case is crafted from titanium. This lightweight, high-tech material, born from the world of motorsport, offers high elasticity and resilience. At 46 percent lighter than stainless steel for the same volume, it is exceptionally strong, non-magnetic, resistant to corrosion from saltwater and heat, and less likely to cause metal allergies. Following the principles of lightweight construction, the case is also designed to be as slim as technically possible.
The signature feature of the 1919 collection is the iconic lug opening and the form created by the transition from the lugs to the bracelet. These elements not only eliminate the drawbacks of classic lug designs (connection via spring bars) but also lend a unique lightness to the collection's pure aesthetic. Owners can literally feel the connection to sports cars on their wrist.
This new model, embodying engineering, performance, and brand aesthetics, has been available since April 2020.
