The Original Diver's Watch Brand: Robust and Unpretentious
DOXA was founded in 1889 in Le Locle, the heart of the Swiss watchmaking industry. The biggest turning point in its history came in 1967, when it introduced the first professional diver's watch for the general market, bringing innovation to the industry.
The design, which supported decompression-free ascent with a unidirectional rotating bezel, was revolutionary for its time. Along with its striking orange dial, the "DOXA SUB" established itself as the definitive model for diver's watches. Today, based in Biel/Bienne, the company continues to develop its watches, upholding over 130 years of craftsmanship and tradition.
DOXA views Japan as one of the world's most sophisticated watch markets. This is because Japanese watch enthusiasts and collectors, with their meticulous attention to detail and precision, as well as a deep understanding of the brand's history and background, have cultivated a unique watch culture.
Furthermore, in Japan, a nation with a long-standing connection to maritime culture and facing the Pacific Ocean, diver's watches hold a particularly special place. DOXA, chosen by professionals in all manner of underwater environments, is expected to resonate with Japanese users.
The lineup for the Japanese market will focus on the "SUB 200," an entry-level model with 200m water resistance, a modern reinterpretation of its 1960s design, and the iconic "SUB 300" with 300m water resistance, a faithful reproduction of the 1967 original.
The design faithfully embodies the brand's heritage, featuring a high-precision Swiss mechanical movement, a highly legible orange dial, a distinctive cushion-shaped case, and the "rice bead" style bracelet. Prices are expected to range from the 200,000s to the 700,000s yen, and the watches will be available through specialized luxury watch retailers in Japan, Osawa & Co.'s directly managed stores (Tokyo and Osaka), and the official DOXA e-commerce site.
Regarding the expansion into Japan, DOXA CEO Jan Edöcs commented, "We prioritize sustainable and balanced growth over rapid expansion. There is already a natural demand for DOXA in Japan, and a diver's watch community rooted in water sports culture is forming. Together with our trusted partner Osawa & Co., we aim to meet this solid demand while preserving the brand's value and consistency."
DOXA watches are free of superfluous ornamentation. This is not a pursuit of minimalist design, but rather a necessity for a tool that must be relied upon for life in the harsh underwater environment. The belief in "doing what is right, consistently" is precisely why divers have chosen DOXA for over half a century.

Frequently Asked Questions About DOXA Watches
Q. What is the history of DOXA?
Based in Biel/Bienne, Switzerland, DOXA is a long-established diver's watch brand with over 130 years of history. Known as a brand used by professional divers in real-world conditions since the dawn of diving culture, the "DOXA SUB," born in 1967, became synonymous with diver's watches due to its striking orange dial and innovative functional design. Today, in Biel/Bienne, the company continues to develop watches while preserving the craftsmanship and tradition passed down over many years.
Q. Why is a unidirectional rotating bezel essential for diver's watches?
The unidirectional rotating bezel is an indispensable feature for divers to safely manage their remaining dive time underwater. If the bezel is accidentally moved during a dive, it can lead to an underestimation of dive time, increasing the risk of decompression sickness. With the unidirectional function, the bezel can only be rotated in one direction, ensuring that even if accidentally operated, the dive time is not displayed as shorter, thus maintaining safety. DOXA's adoption of this design, supporting "decompression-free ascent," was a groundbreaking initiative at the time of its release.
Q. What are the characteristics of DOXA watches?
They are characterized by designs that embody the brand's heritage, featuring high-precision Swiss mechanical movements, highly legible orange dials, distinctive cushion-shaped cases, and "rice bead" style bracelets. The lineup for the Japanese market is centered around the "SUB 200," an entry-level model with 200m water resistance and a modern reinterpretation of its 1960s design, and the "SUB 300" with 300m water resistance, a faithful reproduction of the 1967 original.
