German watchmaker Sinn has added the "U50.S.Perlmutt.S" to its 41mm "U50.S" collection of dive watches. Limited to 500 pieces worldwide, this new model features a black mother-of-pearl dial. The iridescent mother-of-pearl, which reflects light with a rainbow-like sheen, is a natural material, making each dial unique. This is an exceptionally rare model.

Black Hard Coating Emphasizes Form

The "U50.S" is a professional dive watch with a case diameter of 41mm, a size that sits comfortably on the wrist, and a highly legible dial that focuses on the essential elements for a dive watch. Now, the new "U50.S.Perlmutt.S" joins the collection, limited to 500 pieces worldwide and featuring a black mother-of-pearl dial.

While the combination of mother-of-pearl and a dive watch might seem unusual, it's a natural pairing connected by the element of the sea. The overall design is finished with a black hard coating that emphasizes its distinct form and minimalist display. This black hard coating is based on Tegiment technology, ensuring high scratch resistance.

Tegiment technology involves a case hardening process using nitrogen, where carbon molecules are diffused and permeated into the surface of the steel, then quenched to harden it. This enhances the material's inherent scratch resistance. Further application of PVD coating achieves a hardness equivalent to or greater than ceramics. A key feature of this black hard coating is its ability to prevent the colored layer from peeling off the case.

The case and crown are made from U-boat steel, a high-strength German submarine steel. The crown is positioned at 4 o'clock to avoid digging into the back of the hand when worn. The unidirectional rotating bezel is secured to the case with a special connection mechanism, ensuring it won't detach during use. This model has been certified by the classification society DNV GL for pressure resistance up to 500 meters (50 bar), temperature resistance, and functionality, in accordance with European diving equipment standards.
