A New "Pelagos FXD" Honors the Heritage of Tudor Watches Worn by U.S. Navy Divers

A new "Pelagos FXD" has been released, paying homage to the Tudor watches that supported U.S. Navy divers on their missions for decades. This robust dive watch, the ultimate modern "MilSub," features a fixed strap bar construction, a titanium case, a high-performance Manufacture Caliber, and a unidirectional rotating bezel for elapsed time measurement.

A New Model Incorporating Iconic Tudor Watch and Military Design Elements

The design of the new "Pelagos FXD" is inspired by the Tudor dive watches worn by U.S. Navy personnel from the late 1960s to the early 1980s. The overall color is black, with "snowflake" hands featuring square tips and square hour markers on the dial, introduced to maximize luminescence in the dark. It also features a matte-finished ceramic insert with a sandblasted texture and a unidirectional rotating bezel with luminous markings. Furthermore, the 42mm titanium case is entirely satin-finished, with its matte texture limiting light reflection.
The two straps included with the "Pelagos FXD" are an evolution of the military tradition of preferring straps over bracelets. In the past, U.S. Navy divers primarily used Tudor watches with black or green nylon fabric straps. This model follows that tradition, coming with a green fabric strap with a red stripe down the center, and also includes a black rubber strap with a textile motif embossed on it. They can be easily interchanged using the self-grip fastening system.
The fabric strap included with this model was newly developed for this watch by Tudor and Julien Faure, a family-run company in Saint-Étienne, France, with over 150 years of history. The new strap, a green woven nylon ribbon (22mm wide) with a red stripe down the center, combined with a self-grip fastening system, offers a comfortable fit for any wrist.
The Manufacture Caliber MT5602 powering the "Pelagos FXD" features hour, minute, and second hands. Like other Tudor Manufacture Calibers, it has a monobloc tungsten rotor with an openworked, sandblasted satin finish, and bridges and mainplate with alternating sandblasted surfaces and laser decoration.
This movement, combining robustness, durability, reliability, and precision, features a variable inertia balance wheel with a micro-adjusting mechanism, held in place by a traversing bridge secured at two points. It also includes a silicon balance spring that is antimagnetic and has received Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC) certification. While the certification standard for the movement is a daily rate of -4 to +6 seconds, Tudor achieves an even higher standard for the assembled watch, with a daily rate of -2 to +4 seconds. Another notable feature is the approximately 70-hour power reserve, meaning you won't need to wind the watch if you take it off on Friday evening and put it back on Monday morning.
