Where Hiroshi Fujiwara's Design Sensibility Meets TAG Heuer's DNA
TAG Heuer has released the "TAG Heuer x Fragment Design Calibre Heuer 02 Chronograph," the second collaboration model with Fragment Design, led by Hiroshi Fujiwara. Following the great success of the first collaboration with Fragment Design announced in 2018, this second iteration is a bold, minimalist, and innovative model.
Reflecting TAG Heuer's motor racing heritage, the watch features a high-end finish, a ceramic bezel, and a vibrant red sapphire case back. This timepiece is powered by the in-house "Heuer 02" calibre, boasting approximately 80 hours of power reserve, and is a rare collector's piece limited to 500 units with a striking red sapphire case back.
A key design feature is the minimalist style, reinterpreting the C-case models used in TAG Heuer's motor racing models of the 1960s and '70s. While maintaining superb proportions, the details have been simplified to the extreme. The iconic tachymeter scale on the bezel is emphasized, leading to a clean aesthetic.
The dial is predominantly black, accented with red throughout. It features a two-counter layout with black embossed sub-dials, a white "TAG HEUER" logo, and a "FRAGMENT" logo positioned between 4 and 5 o'clock. The simple date window at 6 o'clock, along with the pop of red indices and red lacquered hands, adds a unique touch to this high-contrast composition.
The case back features a striking red sapphire crystal, allowing a view of the in-house movement. This case back is adorned with the Fragment Design logo and engraved with the limited serial number from 1 to 500.
The bracelet is a five-row stainless steel model with a butterfly folding clasp. The meticulously polished finish catches the light with every movement of the wrist, showcasing exquisite craftsmanship.
Regarding this second collaboration model, Hiroshi Fujiwara explained, "We had the opportunity to interpret an existing legacy to create a timepiece, and by reflecting one of the brand's logo colors in the red case back, we've given the design a modern and unique appeal, bringing a completely new, evolved personality."
Frank Touzet, TAG Heuer's Vice President of Creation & Product, stated, "The 'TAG Heuer x Fragment Design Calibre Heuer 02 Chronograph' has everything modern watch enthusiasts desire: pure, innovative technology, a striking and stylish appearance, and an intriguing history."
This timepiece comes in a special TAG Heuer x Fragment Design box and is scheduled for release in late July 2020.
