Eberhard's 135th Anniversary "Scafograf 200 DLC Limited Edition"
In July 2021, Swiss watch maison Eberhard, which made its full-scale debut in Japan, released two models of the "Scafograf 200 DLC Limited Edition" to commemorate its 135th anniversary, with a worldwide limited production of 135 units each.
A Limited Edition Expressing the Fusion of Past and Present
Founded in 1887 in La Chaux-de-Fonds, the mecca of Swiss watchmaking. Eberhard is a rare brand that has continued family management for 135 years without ever stopping production, overcoming the quartz crisis.
During wartime, it was adopted as the official watch for Italian Navy officers, and it established its brand not only through outstanding technical prowess, such as being the first to introduce the hour counter and split-seconds chronograph, but also as a watch with a sophisticated design befitting an officer. Post-war, it enjoyed immense popularity among executives wearing suits, particularly within Italy's business circles, earning renown as the "Elegant Officer’s Watch." It is also famously known as the watch cherished throughout his life by the late Gianni Agnelli, former honorary chairman of Fiat, which owned Ferrari.
To commemorate its 135th anniversary, Eberhard has unveiled the "Scafograf 200 DLC Limited Edition," a faithful reproduction of one of the maison's signature dive watch collections, with a worldwide limited production of 135 units.
The base model is the "Scafograf 200," which debuted in 1959 and featured professional-grade 200-meter water resistance and a helium escape valve. This collection is known to have been favored in the 1960s by the legendary free diver Raymond Buchet, known as the father of diving, and his student, Luciana Civico, the first female diver. It played a role in the world of dive watches, guiding them through numerous challenging missions to successful completion.
In 1964, a 300-meter water-resistant model, the "Scafograf 300," was also released. In 2016, a reissue of the "Scafograf 300" won the sports category at the prestigious Geneva Watchmaking Grand Prix, the highest honor in luxury watchmaking, bringing its name to global prominence.
Eberhard, constantly recording legends and pursuing challenges and innovation, has faithfully recreated the early "Scafograf 200" using the specifications that reached the pinnacle at the Geneva Watchmaking Grand Prix, expressing the fusion of past and present. The new "Scafograf 200 DLC Limited Edition" features an all-black, contemporary exterior achieved through DLC coating.
Two models are available: one paired with a black rubber strap and the other with a DLC-coated stainless steel bracelet. Each is offered in a worldwide limited edition of 135 units.
