A Commemorative Model Honoring an Iconic Design
The "TAG Heuer Carrera Sport Chronograph 160 Years Special Edition" draws inspiration from the Heuer Carrera “DATO 45,” the first TAG Heuer watch to feature a rotating date disk, launched in 1965.
The most distinctive feature of this model is the date display window positioned at 12 o'clock. Inherited from the original Heuer 3147N “DATO 45,” the date appears in crisp red numerals against a white background. Complementing the red date, the central chronograph seconds hand is also finished in red lacquer, with red accents further enhancing the subdial at 3 o'clock. This dial is protected by a domed sapphire crystal with beveled edges, treated with anti-reflective coating on both sides.
Catherine Eberlé-Devaux, TAG Heuer's Heritage Director, commented: "Creating the 160th Anniversary Special Edition gave us the wonderful opportunity to review all the outstanding Carrera models. I believe this is truly special. The choice of the Heuer Carrera “DATO 45” reference number 3147N was a bold one, as designing a clean, highly legible chronograph dial while incorporating a date display in such an unusual position was not an easy task for the design team. However, they have admirably succeeded in updating and enhancing this icon."
The 44mm stainless steel case, featuring polished and finely brushed satin finishes, is equipped with a blue ceramic bezel marked with a tachymeter scale. The blue circular satin-brushed dial showcases white azurage subdials at 3 and 9 o'clock for minutes and hours elapsed, respectively, along with a blue opaline permanent seconds counter at 6 o'clock, creating a striking contrast.
The white dial model is housed in an equally polished and finely brushed satin-finished 44mm stainless steel case, but features a black ceramic bezel with a tachymeter scale. The contrast with the silver opaline dial is exceptionally bold. Black azurage chronograph minute and hour counters at 3 and 9 o'clock further enhance the striking look, while a white opaline permanent seconds counter is positioned at 6 o'clock.
Both models feature rhodium-plated applied indices and hour/minute hands coated with white Super-LumiNova®, ensuring excellent legibility in all conditions. The dial is adorned with a rhodium-plated "TAG Heuer" logo and printed with the text "CARRERA HEUER 02 80 HOURS," indicating the in-house movement.
The case back is engraved with "ONE OF 1860," signifying its limited edition status. Through the sapphire crystal case back, one can admire the in-house Heuer 02 movement, equipped with an automatic winding rotor featuring the 160th Anniversary Special logo. This exceptional limited edition is presented in a special box designed to commemorate TAG Heuer's 160th anniversary.
