Two Limited Edition "Carrera" Models Launched for TAG Heuer's Anniversary Year

Swiss luxury watchmaker TAG Heuer celebrated its 160th anniversary in 2020. To commemorate this special milestone, the brand has revived two "Carrera" models as limited editions. The "Montreal" revival, "TAG Heuer Carrera 160 Years Montreal Limited Edition," originally launched in 1972 and distinguished by its bright radiance and elegance, is limited to 1,000 pieces worldwide. The "TAG Heuer Carrera 160 Years Silver Dial Limited Edition," which fuses the design of the 1960s "Heuer Carrera" with innovative 21st-century watchmaking technology, is limited to 1,860 pieces worldwide, referencing the brand's founding year.

Each Inherits Superior Design Elements

Founded in 1860 as Heuer, TAG Heuer was established in Saint-Imier, Switzerland, by Edouard Heuer. Since then, through numerous transformations, the brand has consistently pursued innovation and development, challenging itself with cutting-edge watchmaking. To celebrate the brand's 160th anniversary, two limited models from the elegant "TAG Heuer Carrera" collection have been revived.

The "TAG Heuer Carrera 160 Years Montreal Limited Edition" revives the "Montreal" model launched in 1972, characterized by its three blue counters with azurage finishing and a blue and white dial.

At the 12 o'clock position, "Carrera" and "Heuer" logos are placed. The chronograph hour counter at 3 o'clock features three curves extending from 1 to 5 and 10 to 15, 20 to 25. Yellow Super-LumiNova® is applied to the central hour and minute hands, enhancing legibility and serving as a design focal point.

The central chronograph hand is boldly finished in red lacquer for clear distinction. The dial is covered by a retro-style domed sapphire crystal. The polished timepiece, paired with a blue alligator leather strap, is powered by the innovative Calibre "Heuer 02" movement. The movement and rotor can be admired through the sapphire crystal case back, which is engraved with the limited edition and serial number.

The other model is the "TAG Heuer Carrera 160 Years Silver Dial Limited Edition," a revival of the 1964 monochrome silver dial model "2447S," known for its blue three counters and a silver dial reminiscent of a starburst.

While inheriting superior original design elements such as the eternally elegant dial and the polished case and pushers, it is newly equipped with the latest in-house Calibre Heuer 02 movement. The shape differs slightly: the original case diameter of 36mm has been increased to 39mm. Due to structural differences between the "Valjoux 72" used in 1963 and the "Calibre Heuer 02" movement used now, the small seconds, originally at 9 o'clock, has been moved to 6 o'clock. The case back is engraved with the serial number "One of 1860" and "LIMITED EDITION."

Another change is the central hour and minute hands. They are beveled and coated with beige Super-LumiNova®. The "Carrera" name and Heuer logo are clearly printed on the dial, which is covered by a domed sapphire crystal, creating a finish reminiscent of the original "Heuer Carrera."

The newly designed rotor, visible through the screw-down sapphire crystal, features lacquered engravings representing the anniversary edition. The packaging is also specially designed.

These two revival models are currently available for pre-order on the official online boutique, with in-store availability beginning mid-July 2020.
