A True Technical Watch Honoring the Connection Between TUDOR and the French Navy

TUDOR has launched the Pelagos FXD, a professional model developed in collaboration with the French Navy's special forces. It is a true professional model designed for underwater navigation.
This timepiece revives the close relationship TUDOR shared with the French Navy, which supplied watches until the 1980s. Developed in cooperation with 'Commando Hubert,' the renowned combat diver unit of the French Navy, it is a technical watch meeting unique specifications, including special functions.
The bezel extends beyond the case to improve operability. Furthermore, it can be rotated in both directions.
Its functional features include strap bars fixed to the case for enhanced robustness and reliability, and a case shape that resembles extended lugs, giving the watch a distinctive silhouette. Additionally, the 120-click rotating bezel is a newly adopted specification for this model. The bidirectional rotating bezel features markings from 0 to 60 arranged counter-clockwise, a specification that goes beyond compliance with the diver's watch standard ISO 6425:2018 to meet the specific needs of combat divers for 'underwater navigation.'
Underwater navigation requires pairs of divers, connected by a 'lifeline,' to reach their destination by swimming at a constant speed and time using a magnetic compass, restarting the countdown each time they enter a new section. This is where the luminous markings on the bezel, arranged counter-clockwise, are useful. By aligning the counter-clockwise markings on the bidirectional rotating bezel with the minute hand according to the time required for each section, the countdown can be set. Moreover, the bezel ring on this model is designed to be larger than the case, allowing for operation even with gloved hands, which may have lost sensation due to prolonged dives.
The exterior design is inspired by TUDOR dive watches historically adopted by the French Navy. Key features include the navy blue color, the snowflake hands and square hour markers introduced to maximize luminous intensity even in darkness, and the sandblasted ceramic rotating bezel with luminous paint.
Furthermore, the entire titanium case is satin-finished, with its matte texture limiting light reflection. The case back is engraved with the Marine nationale (French Navy) logo and 'M.N.21' (Marine nationale 2021).
Historically, the French Navy ordered TUDOR dive watches without bracelets and primarily used them with handmade fabric straps. Paying homage to the straps favored by divers, this model features a new construction strap made by Julien Faure in France. The navy blue fabric strap with a central grey line is combined with a self-grip fastening system, ensuring a comfortable fit on any wrist. A supple rubber strap with a textile motif embossed on it is also included as an alternative.
The Manufacture Caliber MT5602 powering this model features hour, minute, and second hands, and like other TUDOR Manufacture Calibers, it boasts a distinctive finish. The rotor, made of a single casting of tungsten, is skeletonized and satin-finished by sandblasting. The bridges and main plate are decorated with laser engraving in addition to sandblasting and polishing.
This movement, combining robustness, durability, reliability, and precision, is equipped with a variable inertia balance wheel supported by a traversing bridge fixed at two points, and features a non-magnetic silicon balance spring.
Moreover, this movement is Swiss Official Chronometer Certified. While the certification sets a standard daily rate of -4 to +6 seconds for the movement alone, TUDOR achieves an even higher standard of -2 to +4 seconds when the watch is fully assembled, which is truly remarkable.
