Exquisite Straps by Italian Luxury Shoemaker Santoni

During the Age of Discovery, Portuguese navigators set sail for uncharted waters, armed with precise navigational instruments, challenging themselves to discover new worlds. The origins of the "Portuguese" collection trace back over 500 years to the 1930s, when two Portuguese watch merchants visited IWC's workshops and commissioned the creation of wristwatches with accuracy comparable to marine chronometers.

Thus, in 1939, the first "Portuguese" watch was born, powered by a pocket watch movement. For over 70 years since, it has been a flagship collection for IWC, passed down to the present day. Now, two new models have been introduced to this esteemed "Portuguese" collection. We begin with the "Portuguese Chronograph Classic".



Characterized by its classic elegance, the "Portuguese Chronograph Classic" is the third chronograph within this collection. The applied Arabic numerals, railway-style chapter ring, and slender leaf hands carry on the identity inherited from the early models created in the 1930s.

The movement is IWC's in-house Calibre 89361, capable of recording up to 12 hours in the sub-dial. The watch is available with an 18-carat red gold or stainless steel case, paired with either a silver-plated or slate-colored dial.

The strap is crafted by Santoni, a renowned Italian luxury shoemaker. Meticulously finished by hand, the leather boasts a unique luster and beautiful hue that perfectly complements the world of the "Portuguese".
