"IWC. Curated.," newly launched by IWC Schaffhausen, a brand with over 150 years of history, is a collection of carefully selected historical timepieces representing significant eras in the maison's past.
Each watch in the collection is meticulously chosen by experts from the IWC Museum, bringing together precious pieces that tell the story of the brand's history of tradition and innovation.
The quality assurance for "IWC. Curated." is rigorous. All watches sold undergo thorough inspection and restoration at IWC's headquarters in Schaffhausen by skilled vintage watchmakers with decades of experience in repairing and overhauling historical timepieces.
During restoration, the goal is to bring the watches as close as possible to their original condition, using original parts whenever feasible, ideally from the period of manufacture. The watchmakers meticulously work based on IWC's extensive archives, which detail movements manufactured in Schaffhausen and a wide range of spare parts for each watch.
Watches that have undergone this stringent restoration process are accompanied by an official certificate of authenticity issued by IWC. This certificate serves as proof of the watch's genuineness and details its provenance. Furthermore, all "IWC. Curated." watches come with an IWC International Limited Warranty, which can be extended to eight years upon registration by the purchaser.
Among the watches available through "IWC. Curated." are masterpieces that have left their mark on watchmaking history. Particularly noteworthy is the original Ingenieur SL (Reference 1832), designed in the 1970s by Gérald Genta, a renowned Geneva-based watch designer and artist. Genta, the legendary designer behind icons like the "Royal Oak" and "Nautilus," created this Ingenieur SL as another significant timepiece showcasing his distinctive creativity.
Also included is the Da Vinci Perpetual Calendar Chronograph (Ref. 3750) from 1985, symbolizing IWC's technical innovation. Developed by IWC's legendary watchmaker Kurt Klaus, this model features the company's first perpetual calendar. The innovative crown-operated perpetual calendar mechanism developed by Klaus in the early 1980s remains unparalleled in its functionality and ease of use to this day.
"IWC. Curated." not only offers watches from existing stock but also provides a service to source specific models based on customer requests. This presents an opportunity to acquire a model one has long sought.
Leveraging their extensive knowledge and network, IWC's specialists will search the globe for the watches customers desire, offering them after undergoing the same rigorous certification process. This personalized service demonstrates that "IWC. Curated." is more than just a sales program; it is a comprehensive and ongoing service for watch enthusiasts.
Initially, "IWC. Curated." will be available only at select boutiques worldwide. Planned locations include the boutique in Schaffhausen, Switzerland; the Battersea Power Station boutique in London, UK; the flagship store in The Dubai Mall, UAE; and the boutique in Ginza, Japan.
At each boutique, knowledgeable staff will provide detailed explanations of the historical background and technical features of the watches, offering a valuable experience in selecting a special timepiece.
David Seyffer, Director of the IWC Museum in Schaffhausen and a historian, commented, "With 'IWC. Curated.,' we wanted to offer watch lovers around the world a special opportunity to acquire timepieces that have shaped IWC's heritage. It is our duty to meticulously prepare these watches, allowing them to be imbued with new stories while reflecting on their past."
What IWC offers through "IWC. Curated." is not merely watches, but historical assets guaranteed for quality and authenticity. This system, where the manufacturer itself carefully selects past creations, performs appropriate restoration, and issues certificates, holds the potential to establish a new standard in the world of vintage watches.
This project transcends a mere commercial endeavor, also fulfilling the crucial role of preserving watch culture.
