An Enduring Standard with Classical Beauty in Case Design

The "Tonneau Curvex" was created by Franck Muller himself, then 28 and engrossed in creating the world's first complex mechanisms. Approximately five years before founding the brand, he received a request from a close collector's partner: "Not a round one, but a watch of your own design." This model, featuring a three-dimensional curve like a sphere, possesses a form entirely different from a flat tonneau shape. The Arabic numerals, which would later become the brand's icon, were also first produced at this time. This original model, born from Franck Muller's extraordinary passion to aim for world-firsts not only in complex mechanisms but also in case design, became an extremely rare piece, produced for only a short period.

In 2019, a limited edition incorporating the Grande Date (Big Date) into this original "2851" shape was released. Its defining features are, of course, the Arabic numerals and the Grande Date mechanism, along with a case design that exudes timeless beauty. The Grande Date, positioned at 12 o'clock, means "large window" in French. This complex system displays the two-digit date using two superimposed rotating discs, presented through two windows. This system, reminiscent of digital displays, was inspired by the large numbers used in 19th-century theater marquees and grand clocks, chosen for their legibility from a distance.

This limited edition evokes the "LIMITED2000" model released in 2000, which featured a similar function. However, subtle changes have been made throughout, including the Grande Date at 12 o'clock, the size of the Arabic numerals, and the design of the seconds hand, resulting in a finish that will delight fans of the Classic line.
