FRANCK MULLER
Time Celebrating 30 Years, and the Scents Woven from 500 Years of History
Swiss mechanical watch brand <Franck Muller>, which celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2022. To commemorate its anniversary celebration in Japan, a special exhibition will be held for a limited time from April 20 (Wed) to 24 (Sun) at the Grand Temple Zojoji in Shiba, Tokyo, in conjunction with an exhibition on the world of Kodo, presented by Shino-ryu, which has a special connection with Franck Muller.
The Trajectory of a Master Watchmaker Who Continues to Propose a "Philosophy of Time"
The genius watchmaker Franck Muller is known by various epithets, including "Maestro of Complicated Watches." He incorporated the tourbillon, a complex mechanism from pocket watches, into wristwatches and has continuously released its evolutionary forms. It is noteworthy that an invention from about 200 years ago remains the most popular complication today.
At the same time, his unique designs and aesthetics captured attention. The Cintree Curvex captivated people with a different charm from complexity. The case, crafted with curved surfaces like those cut from a sphere, elevated the level of watch design. Solid craftsmanship and an aesthetic sense that touches the heartstrings of people. These qualities continue to maintain Franck Muller's freshness even after 30 years.
This exhibition allows a close look at timepieces symbolizing the evolution achieved over 30 years, including archive models that Franck Muller worked on during his time as an independent watchmaker, achieving WORLD PREMIERE.
This is an event where you can experience the maison's identity, which continues to exude individuality even as time passes.
A Special Exhibition Weaving Together "Time" and "Scent"
Shino-ryu Kodo is a school that has inherited the spirit and practices of "Chuko" (incense burning) for 500 years. Currently, it has established over 200 teaching locations both in Japan and abroad, including Paris, Boston, and Shanghai, and continues its activities with the desire to connect people and nations through Kodo.
Franck Muller visited Japan in the summer of 2019, experienced the spirit and practices of Shino-ryu Kodo, and felt a special connection, which led to this special exhibition in Japan.
Furthermore, a concurrent exhibition will allow visitors to experience the "supreme brilliance" of the diamond maison Backes & Strauss, part of the Franck Muller Watchland Group. Rare diamonds, steeped in history and tradition, will be displayed alongside watches that showcase the fusion of cutting techniques designed to make diamonds appear most beautiful.
We highly recommend experiencing this unique temporal and spatial fusion of "time" and "scent" on this occasion.
