A Compact 38mm Case for a Sleek Design

LIP, the French watchmaker celebrating its 150th anniversary, has seen its epoch-making "Nautic-Ski" return after nearly half a century. This revival marks a significant moment in the brand's long history.

Unlike other dive watches, the "Nautic-Ski," France's first mechanical 200m water-resistant dive watch, is characterized by its inner rotating bezel, a compressor case offering 200m water resistance, and a domed crystal.

Fred Lip, grandson of the LIP founder, imbued the watch with the desire to create a water-resistant timepiece suitable for any intense sport. He named it "Nautic-Ski," combining "Nautic" for water resistance with "Ski" to evoke the agility and speed of skiing, inspired by his daughter's membership in the French women's ski team.

Upon its release in 1967, the "Nautic-Ski" was famously favored by legendary yachtsman Éric Tabarly and Jacques Cousteau's team of ocean explorers. It garnered attention at the 1968 Grenoble Olympics, demonstrating its presence and becoming a beloved timepiece for many watch enthusiasts.

The movement in this model is based on MIYOTA, assembled and decorated in LIP's own atelier in Besançon, France. While the 38mm case size is relatively small for a dive watch, the inner bezel maintains excellent legibility and operability, contributing to its sleek design.
