Since its debut in 1989, the "Promaster" professional sports watch has demonstrated durability in harsh environments and functionality across a wide range of specialized fields. Now, a limited edition model is being released to support "Team Kuroshio," a deep-sea exploration team currently competing in the global competition "XPRIZE."
Team Kuroshio, comprised of eight joint research teams including the Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (JAMSTEC) and the University of Tokyo, is currently participating in the "Shell Ocean Discovery XPRIZE," a global competition to develop technology for ultra-wide area high-speed seafloor mapping. Over approximately three years, 32 teams from 22 countries are competing in accuracy and speed. Team Kuroshio is the only Japanese team to reach the final round and is currently preparing for the competition.
Citizen supports the activities of Team Kuroshio, embodying the Promaster key message "GO BEYOND - Beyond Imagination." Additionally, they provide dive watches such as the "Eco-Drive Professional Diver 1000m."
The new limited-edition model is a dive watch equipped with an analog depth gauge capable of measuring depths up to 70 meters. It displays the analog time using Eco-Drive light-powered technology while simultaneously showing the depth with the needle, and the luminous color differs between the time and depth displays for improved visibility underwater.
The metal band features a double-holding buckle with a ratchet mechanism for length adjustment, allowing for size adjustments to accommodate scenarios such as wearing a wetsuit.
The depth gauge has a wider scale for depths up to 40 meters, making it easier to read dive depths and allowing for appreciation of the needle's dynamic movement. It also includes a power reserve indicator, rapid ascent alarm, water detection sensor, screw-lock crown, and a unidirectional rotating bezel.
The dial features a deep-sea-inspired dark blue, with orange accents representing the color of the AUV (Autonomous Underwater Vehicle) used by Team Kuroshio in the competition. The case back is engraved with a mark indicating the collaboration.
