A Sparkle Befitting the 120th Anniversary: The Crystallization of MIKIMOTO's Quality and Craftsmanship
This year marks the 120th anniversary since founder Kokichi Mikimoto succeeded in the world's first cultured pearl cultivation. To celebrate this milestone, MIKIMOTO presents a special crown befitting the start of this significant year. The "MIKIMOTO Pearl Crown “DREAMS & PEARLS” ~12 Pearls and Dreams~" has been completed, a piece of exquisite artistry showcasing MIKIMOTO's highest quality pearls and the culmination of its artisans' skills.
Inspired by the theme "DREAMS & PEARLS" for the 120th anniversary of pearl cultivation invention, the design evokes "12 dream flowers." It is lavishly adorned with Akoya pearls, black South Sea pearls, and other cultured pearls, alongside rare natural pearls, diamonds, and colored stones. The ability to enjoy such a variety of pearls in jewelry today is thanks to the foundation laid by the invention of cultured pearls by founder Kokichi Mikimoto.
Each bloom unfurls softly and gently, like a real flower, beautifully reproduced from every angle, even capturing the natural 'bend' of the leaves and stems. It evokes the flower crowns woven in childhood fields, fulfilling the innocent dreams that many women have held.
The piece's distinction lies not only in its dreamlike beauty. By disassembling and reassembling its individual components, the crown can be enjoyed in a total of 11 styles, including necklaces, brooches, earrings, and bracelets. This echoes the "Yaguruma" (water wheel) brooch that MIKIMOTO exhibited at the 1937 Paris Exposition – a design that could be used as 12 different types of jewelry, creating a sensation in the jewelry world and symbolizing MIKIMOTO's renowned technological prowess.
The masterpiece, "MIKIMOTO Pearl Crown “DREAMS & PEARLS” ~12 Pearls and Dreams~," which took approximately two years from conception to completion, will be publicly unveiled sequentially starting at the MIKIMOTO main store in Tokyo on Friday, February 8th, followed by stores in Nagoya and Umeda, Osaka. In conjunction with the public unveiling in Tokyo, a video showcasing the creation process will be featured on the website (http://www.mikimoto.com/jp/). Witness the astonishing craftsmanship. The relentless pursuit of material quality and the artisans' techniques, passed down through generations—We invite you to experience the special radiance that is the crystallization of MIKIMOTO's 120-year history since the successful invention of pearl cultivation.
