"Envol" with Beetle Wing Dial and "Frou Frou" with a Three-Dimensional Face

Christian Dior founded his Maison on October 8, 1946. The first collection was named "EN HUIT" (French for "in eight"), and the Maison's address is 8, Avenue Montaigne in Paris. The number "8" was considered Dior's lucky number. This unique piece, presented at Baselworld in 2015, hails from the collection that bears this symbolic number.

The "ENVOL" model features a dial adorned with the iridescent wings of scarab beetles. The elytra, which form the wing casings, are used for the dial design without any added color. Approximately 60 pairs of elytra are required to complete a single dial, and each piece is meticulously cut and balanced, taking at least six days. All elytra are sourced from naturally deceased insects collected in autumn, ensuring no harm comes to living creatures.

The "FROU FROU" expresses the fluid movement of Dior's signature ribbons and ruffles through a dial with a three-dimensional effect achieved by 3D setting. Diamonds set on the bezel accentuate the depth of the gold dial.
