Bell & Ross | R 01-92 Radar

BELL & ROSS

A Playful Limited Edition Inspired by Radar

By Yasuto Shibuya

This is a limited edition of 500 pieces worldwide from the "Instrument BR 01-92" series, designed with radar—one of aviation's most crucial instruments—as its motif. It's a must-have for aviation enthusiasts.

The hour, minute, and second hands are all presented on three-tiered rotating discs. The color scheme for time display is also superb, with pastel green for the innermost second hand, yellow for the minute hand, and red for the hour hand. Most striking are the simple cross indexes, printed on the anti-reflective sapphire crystal, that perfectly replicate a real radar display. We highly recommend this as a second piece for those who already own this type of collection, or for collectors of design watches.

Automatic movement, black PVD-finished stainless steel case, natural rubber strap, case size 46x46mm, 598,500 yen, limited to 500 pieces worldwide, scheduled for release this autumn.

BRAND HISTORY

Founded in 1991 by Bruno Belamich and Carlos A. Rosillo with the theme of "the fusion of design and technology," Bell & Ross has since developed a diverse lineup. This includes their flagship "Vintage" model, the "Classic" inspired by aviation watches from around 1950, the rugged "Professional" series designed for extreme environments like space and the deep sea, and the "Function" series, a collection of highly functional timepieces embodying cutting-edge technology.

Notably, the "Hydroxmax" from the "Professional" series achieved a water resistance of 11,100 meters, capable of withstanding the extreme pressure at the deepest point of the Mariana Trench (10,920m) by filling the case with a special hydro-oil. This accomplishment rapidly propelled Bell & Ross to prominence.

In 2005, they unveiled their first square watch, the "BR01." Developed under the concept of "form follows function," this military-style square watch was created by a collective of master watchmakers, designers, and professional users. It features a unique construction with a one-piece case, lacking a traditional case back, sealed by a bezel secured with four screws.

With its broad applicability, including use as a clock, pendant watch, or even for mounting on aircraft instrument panels, it is rapidly becoming a flagship model for Bell & Ross.
