New Concept Models, Chronographs with In-House Movements...

The Innovator in Watchmaking Takes Center Stage in Basel with New Technologies

Under the leadership of charismatic CEO Jean-Christophe Babin, a visionary with exceptional drive, TAG Heuer consistently leads watchmaking technology and trends. This year's new releases, from concept models embodying the "dreams" of watch engineers to limited editions, have impressed watch professionals from around the globe.

By Yasuto Shibuya

This year, TAG Heuer, a prestigious Swiss sports watchmaker celebrating its 150th anniversary, unveiled a concept model at Basel Fair that marks a first in watchmaking history. It features the "Pendulum" escapement, which uses the repulsive force of powerful magnets instead of a hairspring to oscillate the balance wheel. While numerous technical challenges remain before practical application, the endeavor to challenge the mechanism that has powered mechanical watches since Christiaan Huygens developed the hairspring in 1675 is immensely significant.

However, TAG Heuer's brilliance this year lies not only in advancing groundbreaking concept models that "anticipate the future of watchmaking" but also in its unparalleled creations in the realm of realistic, affordably priced timepieces for everyday wear. Leading this charge is the "Carrera 1887 Chronograph," equipped with the in-houseChronographmovement, "Calibre 1887." For a watch with such substantial content, the price is truly commendable.
