Aquatimer Chronograph "Expedition Jacques-Yves Cousteau"

A Tribute to a Pioneer of Ocean Conservation

At the SIHH, Switzerland's premier watchmaking exhibition, IWC unveiled a complete renewal of its popular Aquatimer dive watch collection. Among the highlights is the Chronograph "Expedition Jacques-Yves Cousteau," dedicated to the French oceanographer Jacques-Yves Cousteau, inventor of the Aqua-Lung and a pioneer in marine conservation.

In Schaffhausen, a picturesque town on the Rhine River near the German border, a prestigious manufacture has been crafting robust "wristwatches for men" since 1967. In 2014, they completely revamped their popular Aquatimer dive watch collection.

Alongside improved water resistance, a key theme of this renewal was a refined design suitable for a wide range of uses beyond diving. The bezel, previously positioned above the case bezel for marking dive times, has evolved into an outer/inner bezel system, allowing the inner bezel to be operated by moving the outer bezel. This makes it a diver's watch that can be worn seamlessly even with a suit. The strap has also been upgraded to a quick-release type, detachable with a simple press of a lever at the case junction.

The new collection introduced this year offers a variety of models. These include the "Deep Three" with a mechanical depth gauge, the complex "Perpetual Calendar Digital Date-Month" with digital displays for the moon and date, and the "Automatic 2000," which inherits the DNA of a military model born from a partnership with Porsche Design, led by Dr. Ferdinand A. Porsche in the 1980s.

Further variations include the "Chronograph "Galapagos Islands"" with a full black rubber coating on the case, and the "Chronograph "Expedition Charles Darwin"" which features a bronze case and is dedicated to Charles Darwin, the father of evolutionary theory.

And for our OPENERS readers, we highly recommend the "Chronograph "Expedition Jacques-Yves Cousteau." Dedicated to the French oceanographer Jacques-Yves Cousteau, inventor of the Aqua-Lung and a pioneer in marine conservation, this model features a beautiful blue dial. It's a sporty timepiece that will add a touch of brilliance to your wrist, perfect not only for diving but for any occasion.
