Honoring the Achievements of the Age of Discovery
A new addition has joined Arnold & Son's Instrument Collection: the "Globetrotter."
The Instrument Collection draws inspiration from the brand's history, when founder John Arnold and his son John became watchmakers to the British Navy by developing high-quality marine chronometers. This collection features watches inspired by their original, innovative creations.
For this new model, the brand pays tribute to the great voyages of the 18th and 19th centuries, placing a globe celebrating the vast oceans at its center. It adopts a grand perspective, capturing time by looking down upon the Earth (Northern Hemisphere) from space.
This approach results in a highly unique representation of a second time zone. Instead of relying on city names, the watch uses a meticulously crafted world map to provide a visual understanding of the second time zone. Furthermore, its grand scope, capable of capturing the time across the entire Northern Hemisphere rather than being limited to a second time zone, resonates with the model's name, "Globetrotter."
To visually represent the time zones of the entire Northern Hemisphere with precision, an accurate globe is essential. The oceans are finished with lacquer, with three shades of depth. Landmasses are etched, with mountains featuring a satin finish and plains a polished finish to create a sense of three-dimensionality. Japan is also depicted with care.
The outer edge of the globe is encircled by a sapphire crystal 24-hour display ring, where the upper transparent half indicates daytime and the lower gray half indicates nighttime.
The bridges, which serve as a design accent along with the dome-shaped sapphire crystal covering the globe, play a crucial role in supporting the substantial weight of the globe. The globe rotates in conjunction with the hands, and to ensure stable rotation of this disk, Arnold & Son has incorporated a large jewel bearing into their in-house automatic movement, Caliber A&S6022.
