Introducing the "RM021 Tourbillon Aerodyne"
Among the newly arrived notable models is the "RM021Tourbillon"Aerodyne." The model's designation, "RM021," pays homage to Richard Mille's early models, the "RM001" and "RM002." By taking its name from these models, introduced eight years ago, Richard Mille reaffirms its unwavering commitment to the "innovation" that forms the brand's foundation. While Richard Mille has previously drawn inspiration from the worlds of land and sea, such as automobiles, this new creation presents a tourbillon inspired by the realm of "aviation." It reflects the theme of "atmosphere-space-supersonic aircraft" that has been a source of ideas since 2001.
Ever committed to exploring new materials, Richard Mille has once again utilized a novel material for the tourbillon's baseplate: orthorhombic titanium aluminide. This new alloy, developed from titanium aluminide, possesses a unique crystalline molecular structure arranged on an orthorhombic phase of Ti2AINb. Inspired by the core material of supersonic aircraft wings used by NASA, Richard Mille has adopted this new alloy in a honeycomb structure, with the plates hollowed out to resemble a beehive. By maximizing the alloy's inherent rigidity, the brand has achieved exceptional shock resistance while creating a lighter and more comfortable tourbillon.
The automatic diver's watch "RM028" also arrives
Another notable arrival is the "RM028 NewDiver's Watch." It was just last year, in 2009, that the brand unveiled its first diver's watch themed around "deep sea," and its first round-cased model, the tourbillon "RM025."This new iteration features a round case enlarged to 47mm, completing its development as an automatic diver's watch. Like its predecessor, the round case employs a unique three-part construction and torque screws precisely tensioned to ensure uniform sealing, achieving ISO6425-compliant water resistance to 30 atmospheres. The bezel system, also a three-part structure with the entire assembly screwed into the case, is secured by 22 torque screws to prevent accidental rotation. This marks the birth of a Richard Mille diver's watch designed for more daily use.
In addition to these two pieces, the "RM019 Celtic Knot Tourbillon," announced last year and winner of the Grand Prix in the Ladies' category at the "Watchmaking Grand Prix de Genève," as well as the pocket watch "RM020," are also on display. All can be viewed at "Richard Mille GINZA" until January 20th (Wednesday). Following this, they are scheduled to tour various shops across the country, so why not take this precious opportunity to visit Ginza?
