THE IMITATION GAME depicts the extraordinary fate of Alan Turing, a real-life genius mathematician who, with a mind of astonishing speed, tackled the German military's "Enigma" code, considered unbreakable, and contributed to the end of the war.Winner of this year's Academy Award for Best Adapted ScreenplayThis highly anticipated film has now arrived in Japan.
Turing, the solitary mathematician, is brilliantly portrayed by Benedict Cumberbatch, who first gained widespread recognition in the TV series "SHERLOCK" and also appeared in the sci-fi blockbuster "STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS". Joan, a crossword puzzle specialist who forms a bond with Turing, is played by the acclaimed Keira Knightley.
The film is directed by Morten Tyldum, originally from Norway. It brings to the screen the true story of a man whose life was kept a state secret by the British government for over 50 years.
Turing Throws Himself into a Dangerous Top-Secret Mission
London, 1939. Alan Turing, who considers himself "the world's greatest mathematician," is recruited for a top-secret government mission: to decipher the German "Enigma" code. Despite the formation of an elite team comprising Britain's chess champion and other experts, the arrogant and socially awkward Turing refuses to cooperate, embarking on creating an electronic decryption machine on his own.
Meanwhile, Joan, a gifted crossword puzzle solver who joins the team, becomes Turing's confidante and helps him connect with his colleagues. What began as Turing's intellectual game of cracking codes soon evolves into a mission to save lives.
The team, now working in unison, faces a crisis when the enemy discovers their decryption breakthrough due to an unforeseen event, forcing them to alter their strategy. Collaborating with Britain's intelligence agency, MI6, Turing plunges into an even more perilous top-secret operation.
Here is the story of Alan Turing, a man who contributed to the end of the war and the invention of the computer, yet whose life remained a closely guarded secret by the British government for decades. His enigmatic life is finally revealed.
