Edward Yang, a film director who, alongside Hou Hsiao-hsien, spearheaded the Taiwanese New Wave cinema of the 1980s and 90s. Until his untimely death at the age of 59 in 2007, he directed a total of seven feature films and one short film, each with a distinct style, including "Couples" (1996) and "Yi Yi" (2000).

Among these, his third feature film, "The Terrorizers," is his breakthrough work. It captivated fans with its enigmatic narrative and meticulous structure, while delicately capturing the psychology of a teenage girl spiraling into crime. The film depicts the crisis facing contemporary society, where a girl's casual act can destroy the peaceful daily lives of strangers, suggesting that anyone can unknowingly become a "terrorizer" who harms others.

While a mystery ensemble drama depicting the madness and loneliness lurking within everyday life, it is also a universal human drama that resonates with everyone living today, earning critical acclaim at the Cannes Film Festival and elsewhere. This marks its first theatrical release in Japan in 19 years, since 1996.
