A Clever Story, Even Hollywood Approves, Will Leave You Breathless

Kahaani is a full-fledged suspense entertainment that depicts the unimaginably harsh fate of a heroine who comes to the chaotic, bustling metropolis of Kolkata (formerly Calcutta) to search for her missing husband.

The brilliance of this film lies in its meticulously placed foreshadowing and the ingenious story, built upon a grand trick. The mystery deepens, and the unpredictable twists and turns, which reveal one surprising fact after another, will draw you in completely. You will surely be left breathless by the shocking conclusion that awaits at the end.


The protagonist, Vidya, is played by Vidya Balan, a top Bollywood actress with numerous awards. The director is Sujoy Ghosh, a rising talent in the Indian film industry. A Hollywood remake, directed by Niels Arden Oplev of "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" fame, has already been decided.

Incidentally, the "goddess" in the title refers to Durga, the Hindu goddess of war celebrated during the "Durga Puja" festival. Durga is said to possess both an elegant appearance and a fierce temperament, and this extreme duality forms the basis of the film.

A Beautiful Pregnant Woman's Obsessive Search for Her Husband Leads to a Startling Revelation

Two years ago, Vidya, a beautiful pregnant woman, arrived at Kolkata International Airport, the site of a mass casualty incident from a subway sarin gas attack. She has traveled all the way from London with one purpose: to find her husband, Arnav, who disappeared a month prior.

However, there is no record to prove Arnav's presence at her lodging or workplace, leaving Vidya in despair. Soon, the existence of a dangerous individual named Milan Damji, who bears a striking resemblance to Arnav, surfaces. Upon learning this, National Intelligence Agency agents intervene in the search, escalating the situation as an informant helping Vidya is murdered.
