A passion project for Burton, an avid collector of "Big Eyes" art

Filmmaker Tim Burton, renowned for fantasy masterpieces such as 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory' and'Alice in Wonderland',is also celebrated as an artist. His latest film, 'Big Eyes,' based on a true story, is his first in 20 years. It is set to be released soon.

In the 1960s, "Big Eyes" pop art captivated the art world. This series, depicting children with large, soulful eyes, sparked a massive craze across America, even earning the admiration of Andy Warhol. Burton himself is a collector and a devoted fan, having once commissioned a painting from the artist, Margaret Keane.

Spearheaded by Burton, this project brought together his long-time collaborators, who masterfully recreated the atmosphere of the 1960s on screen. Amy Adams, cast as the protagonist, embodies Margaret Keane with a striking resemblance, delivering a powerful performance that captures her struggles and despair. Walter Keane, Margaret's husband and a master con artist, is portrayed by Christoph Waltz, a two-time Academy Award winner for his roles in films like 'Django Unchained.'

A genius con man husband, a shy and reticent wife

Margaret Keane was a shy, soft-spoken artist. Her paintings of children with sad, large eyes became a global sensation in the 1960s. However, they were presented to the world not as her work, but as that of her husband, Walter Keane. While Walter, basking in wealth and fame, indulged in a lavish lifestyle with celebrities, he convinced Margaret that it was "for the sake of their marriage" and compelled her to paint for 16 hours a day.

But Margaret, who poured her innermost feelings into her art, decided she had to confess, "I'm losing myself like this!" Walter, a brilliant liar, countered by claiming, "My wife is crazy." The situation escalated, eventually leading to a courtroom battle. What will be the outcome of this art showdown, fought over Margaret's soul, her "Big Eyes"?

Even today, "Big Eyes" continues to influence not only Burton's work but also fields ranging from art to animation. The major scandal that shook the art world is now brought to light.
