A Bestselling Novel About a Disappearance Becomes a Film

The latest film from David Fincher, a visionary director who has led the American film industry with his unique visual expression and powerful storytelling, 'Gone Girl,' is finally arriving in Japan. This time, Fincher tackles the film adaptation of Gillian Flynn's bestselling novel, which has sold over six million copies in the US.

On their fifth wedding anniversary, the wife inexplicably vanishes, shattering the seemingly happy daily life of the couple. Signs of a struggle are found in the living room, and a large amount of the wife Amy's blood is discovered in the kitchen. The situation becomes even more complex with the discovery of a diary and letters written before her disappearance.

The police investigate both murder and disappearance possibilities, but their suspicion gradually turns towards the husband, Nick, whose alibi appears increasingly questionable. The media's intense coverage, sparked by a series of reports, focuses the attention of the entire nation on this small Missouri town. As the media frenzy escalates, the couple's hidden past is exposed, and the case begins to take an unexpected turn.

A Masterful Narrative That Challenges the Audience's Judgment

Ben Affleck, who won an Academy Award for Best Picture for his directorial and starring role in 'Argo,' plays Nick, the husband suspected of murder by the entire nation. Opposite him, Rosamund Pike, the British actress who made a stunning debut as a Bond girl in 'Die Another Day,' portrays the enigmatic wife Amy.

Furthermore, the cinematography by Jeff Cronenweth, a frequent collaborator with Fincher, and the industrial soundscape created by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, amplify the tension on screen, compelling the audience to delve deeper into the unfolding story.

Despite its nearly two-and-a-half-hour runtime, the film's intense acting performances and intricate plot keep the audience questioning their own judgment, leaving no room for assumptions until the very end. This psychological thriller leaves such a profound impression that it alters one's perception of the world.
