A Film Adaptation of Michel-Marc Bouchard's Play

Xavier Dolan's talent was recognized early on, with his debut film 'I Killed My Mother' being screened at the Cannes Film Festival when he was just 19. His second film, 'Heartbeats,' and the widely discussedLaurence Anywayswere also shown at Cannes. This year, at Cannes, his latest film, 'Mommy,' won the Jury Prize in the competition section. He is a young filmmaker who has earned the title of "genius."

'Tom at the Farm,' which marks a new direction for Dolan, is his first psycho-thriller. Adapted from a play by Quebec-based playwright Michel-Marc Bouchard, the film unfolds a suffocating narrative set against the backdrop of Quebec's vast rural landscape.

Dolan, who also acted as a child star and has previously starred in his own films, delivers a quietly intense performance as the young man mourning his deceased lover, showcasing his compelling acting talent. The cast, featuring actors with ties to Quebec, including Dolan himself, creates a distinct atmosphere unique to the region.

Tom Visits the Farm for His Boyfriend's Funeral

tom | Tom at the Farm 02

Tom, who works at an advertising agency in Montreal, travels to the farm where his boyfriend, Guillaume, grew up, to attend his funeral. There, he finds Guillaume's mother, Agathe, and his brother, Francis, living together.

Upon arrival, Tom is shocked to learn that Guillaume had hidden his existence from his mother, falsely claiming to have a girlfriend. Furthermore, Francis forces Tom to continue the charade, insisting he pretend to be merely a friend to Guillaume's mother.

Driven by guilt over not being able to save his lover, Tom gradually confines himself to the farm, submitting to Francis's violence and intolerance.

Hidden pasts, guilt and violence, a relationship maintained by a precarious balance, and a daily life slowly descending into madness in a closed-off land... Awarded the FIPRESCI Prize in the competition section at the 2013 Venice Film Festival and hailed as "Dolan's masterpiece," this is a film that demands attention. We urge you to witness his new artistic territory with your own eyes.
