Everyone has likely dreamt at least once of abandoning everything, escaping to a distant land, and starting a new life. 'Night Train to Lisbon' tells the story of a man who turns such an adult fantasy into reality.



The film is directed by Bille August, known for masterpieces such as 'The House of the Spirits' (1994) and 'Good Bye, Bafana' (2007). Set in Lisbon, the capital of Portugal, he has masterfully brought Pascal Mercier's beloved novel to the screen.

Drawn by a single book, he travels to Lisbon to discover his 'true life.' The protagonist, Raimund Gregorius, is portrayed by the distinguished British actor Jeremy Irons. Amadeu de Prado, the enigmatic author of the book that captivates Raimund, is played by Jack Huston, who gained attention for 'American Hustle' (2013). The cast also features a constellation of European stars, including Mélanie Laurent, Charlotte Rampling, Bruno Ganz, and Lena Olin.



His Life Begins to Change Upon Holding a Single Book



Raimund, a Swiss professor of classical literature, stumbles upon an old Portuguese book. Deeply moved and utterly captivated, he impulsively abandons his job and everything else to journey to Lisbon, in pursuit of the mysterious author, Amadeu de Prado.



As he visits Amadeu's family and friends during his travels, Amadeu's life gradually unfolds. Following Amadeu's path becomes a journey for Raimund to re-examine his own life. What will Raimund discover by the end of his journey?
