'Disconnect,' a multi-layered drama about people striving to regain emotional bonds in the wake of an incident on social media, opens in theaters on Saturday, May 24th, at Shinjuku Wald 9 and other locations.

Spotlight on Mark Jacobs' Silver Screen Debut


'Disconnect' weaves together multiple stories that unfold online, converging in a suspenseful narrative. This powerful film, which received a 10-minute standing ovation at the Venice Film Festival and has captivated audiences worldwide, is now coming to Japan.

The story is an original by screenwriter Andrew Stern. Directed by Henry-Alex Rubin, known for his documentary work and an Academy Award nomination for 'Murderball,' the film brings this complex narrative to life with powerful visuals and direction.

The cast features acclaimed actors such as Jason Bateman from 'Up in the Air' and Alexander Skarsgård from 'True Blood.' Also noteworthy is the film debut of designer Mark Jacobs, who plays the boss of boys working on an illegal pornography site.




What Will They Gain Through Great Pain?


Ben, a young boy, attempts suicide after experiencing cyberbullying, falling into a coma. His father, Rich Boyd, consumed by work, has neglected family conversations and is completely unaware of the cause.

Meanwhile, the perpetrator, a boy named Jason, grapples with the loneliness of a single-parent household and harbors repressed feelings, unable to connect with his strict father. Jason's father, Mike, a former detective now working as an online investigator, believes he is communicating his love by asserting his authority over his son.
