Introducing a New Heroine: 58-Year-Old Gloria
Gloria: A Life Unveiled, which powerfully yet delicately portrays the vibrant life of a middle-aged woman in Chile, is directed by the acclaimed Sebastian Lelio, who garnered international attention with the film's success.
Gloria is played by popular Chilean actress Paulina García. With a commitment that included full nudity, she delivered a captivating performance as the protagonist, dominating discussions at the 63rd Berlin International Film Festival and earning her the Silver Bear for Best Actress. Rodolfo, who falls for Gloria, is portrayed by the esteemed actor Sergio Hernández, known for "The Long Goodbye" (1993) and "No" (2012).
The theme song is "Gloria," originally by Umberto Tozzi, which became a major hit when covered by Laura Branigan in 1982.
Gloria's Frustration with Rodolfo's Indecision
In Santiago, Chile's capital, 58-year-old Gloria, a busy career woman, enjoys her single life after divorcing her husband over a decade ago, with her son and daughter now grown and independent. One evening, she meets Rodolfo, an older man, at a dance hall, and they spend the night together. A few days later, Rodolfo formally asks Gloria to be his girlfriend.
Rodolfo, a successful businessman and former naval officer, seems like the ideal partner for Gloria. However, she cannot tolerate the fact that he is still tending to his ex-wife and daughters. Eventually, unable to bear his repeated indecisiveness any longer, Gloria takes a decisive action.—.
A masterpiece is born, offering a refreshing and moving portrayal of a vibrant senior woman living life on her own terms.
