"Ewa": A Role Written for Marion Cotillard
Director James Gray, who garnered international attention with his debut film "Little Odessa," winning the Silver Lion at the Venice Film Festival, was so captivated by Marion Cotillard's beauty that he wrote this film specifically for her. The story draws inspiration from the real-life experiences of his immigrant grandparents and tales of notorious underworld figures. It depicts the struggle of a woman whose dreams are shattered upon immigrating to America, forcing her into prostitution, as she desperately tries to survive.
Marion Cotillard delivers a passionate performance as Ewa, a heroine who survives with resilience despite being tossed about by a cruel fate. Joaquin Phoenix plays Bruno, a man from the underworld, and Jeremy Renner portrays Orlando, a magician who harbors feelings for Ewa.

The Path She Chose to Survive in America
In 1921, Ewa arrives at New York's Ellis Island with her sister, fleeing the war-torn Poland. However, her sister, ill, is quarantined during the immigration inspection, and Ewa herself is denied entry for unjust reasons.
Bruno, a dangerous man who runs a brothel for immigrant women and arranges their prostitution, is captivated by Ewa's beauty at first sight and rescues her as she awaits deportation. With his help, Ewa falls from being a devout Catholic to a prostitute. What sin did she commit to survive, with all her hopes crushed? Now, a shocking confession begins in the confessional.—.
