A Special Feature on Andrzej Wajda, the "Living Legend of Poland"
Polish cinema, which ignited a major sensation across Europe after World War II and profoundly impacted filmmakers worldwide, returns to Theater Image Forum for its annual festival, following last year's highly successful event.
This year, the renowned Polish master Jerzy Skolimowski returns as supervisor. The festival introduces ten new films, primarily from the 1960s. The lineup features seven masterpieces by Andrzej Wajda, the "living legend of Poland" who has championed Polish cinema's artistic merit globally and is set to release his new film 'Walesa' (tentative title) next year. Additionally, six other highly requested films, including Wojciech Jerzy Has's timeless classic 'The Manuscript Found in Saragossa,' complete this dream program.
Many of the films have been digitally remastered, and two beloved children's animation classics that captivated Polish youth in the 1960s will also be screened. Furthermore, three films, including Paweł Pawlikowski's 'Ida,' will have their Japan premieres.
On the opening day, Saturday, November 30th, director Jerzy Skolimowski will be present for a stage greeting. Following the screening of 'Innocent Sorcerers' that day, Skolimowski will give a talk, and after 'Body/Body,' director Jacek Bromski will conduct a teaching session, offering attendees a deeper understanding of the world of Polish cinema.
This film festival brings together works from the 1950s, when the "Polish School" dominated, to contemporary pieces showcasing emerging talents. It presents a perfect opportunity to delve into the profound depths of Polish cinema.
