Liberace, an entertainer who was active primarily in Las Vegas from the 1950s to the early 1980s and was hailed as "the pianist the world adored," was a household name on television at the time. However, he lived his life concealing his homosexuality, a "closeted gay" man.



'Behind the Candelabra' pursues realism through meticulous research, filming on location with ties to his life, and gathering props he actually used. It depicts his private life, which was never revealed, and his true romantic relationships.



The lead role is played by Michael Douglas, who has made a comeback after overcoming late-stage throat cancer. Matt Damon also stars. The film is directed by Steven Soderbergh, who has declared he will take a long hiatus after completing this work. Soderbergh, whose project this has been for 13 years, stated at a press conference, "I can't say this is my last film. But if it were, I would be very proud of it." The film premiered in the competition section at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival, receiving a standing ovation that lasted for an extended period.

Known as "Mr. Showmanship" for his flamboyant costumes, captivating stage presence, and exceptional piano skills, Liberace was visited by a handsome young man named Scott Thorson. Despite their age difference and disparate worlds, they were instantly drawn to each other's charm, beginning a secret romantic relationship that lasted five years.



Their relationship gradually evolved from a purely physical one to a deep emotional connection. However, their seemingly eternal bond began to fray due to Scott's drug addiction and the monotony of their lives.

Michael Douglas's performance, a triumphant return after his illness, is certainly a highlight, as is the direction by Steven Soderbergh, whose final film this may well be. These are unmissable aspects of the movie.
