The classmates were played by the lead actress Tessa Ia's real-life friends
A deeply moving film has emerged from Mexico, a country that has been consistently producing noteworthy works in recent years. While calmly depicting the aftermath of family loss, the portrayal of a new tragedy befalling the father and daughter, and the father's struggle, became a major topic of discussion at the Cannes Film Festival.
The director is Michel Franco, born in 1979, one of the most promising new directors in Mexican cinema and this is his second feature film. The lead role is played by Tessa Ia, who showed her prodigious talent in her debut film, "Daniel & Ana" (2009). Furthermore, most of the classmates surrounding her are her real-life friends with little to no prior acting experience.

One day, Alejandra, the daughter, suddenly disappears
Roberto, unable to overcome the grief of losing his wife Lucia, and his daughter Alejandra move to Mexico City to start anew. However, their sorrow cannot be so easily healed, and they fall into a relationship where they only exchange trivial words, without confronting their emotional wounds.
Alejandra begins to enjoy her new school and makes friends, but after a male student she had a drunken encounter with secretly films her, she becomes the target of bullying.
Unable to tell her father, who is struggling to work due to his grief, that she is being bullied, she has no choice but to endure the painful days. Then, one day, she suddenly disappears.—.
What awaits the father and daughter after a series of wrong choices? This film, like ripples spreading from a stone cast into water, stirs the soul. Such is the talent of director Michel Franco.
