The authentic tango scenes, danced by the actors themselves, are breathtaking.

Tango Libre tells the story of a middle-aged man, living a mundane and monotonous life, who becomes captivated by a woman he meets at a tango class. His worldview and life are irrevocably changed as the film unfolds with moments of intense passion and delicate tenderness.

This highly anticipated film, which won the Special Jury Prize in the Orizzonti section at the 2012 Venice Film Festival and the Grand Prix at the 2012 Warsaw International Film Festival, conquering festivals worldwide, is finally set for its Japanese release.

The film is directed by Frédéric Fonteyne, known for works such as "Une liaison pornographique," with a screenplay by Philippe Blasband, who also directed "Le Papier."

Starring François Damiens from "Dikkenek," the cast includes accomplished actors such as Anne Paulicevich, who also co-wrote the screenplay, Sergi López, and Jean-Michel Balthazar. World-renowned charismatic tango dancer Mariano "Chicho" Frúmboli choreographed the dance sequences and also appears as a cast member. Beyond its compelling narrative, the authentic tango performances, executed by the actors without doubles, are a major highlight.

Tango Libre 04

He meets a woman, dances the tango, and his life is transformed.

JC, a prison guard, leads a quiet private life, his only hobby being dancing tango once a week at a class. One day, he dances with Alice, a woman in her thirties, who attends the class. The next day, he sees Alice in the prison waiting room. She has two visitors: her husband and her lover, who are accomplices in a crime.

Tango Libre 03

JC, who has been living an ordinary life, finds himself drawn to Alice, who lives by her desires and her own rules. However, prison guards are forbidden from associating with inmates' families. JC begins to consider abandoning his current life and breaking these rules.

Surrender to the passionate, poignant music, and let the steps born from mutual affection guide you. Tango, a dance that reflects one's way of life, values, and philosophy, speaks more eloquently of the individual than words. This is a story of passion woven through the dance. After watching, you too will undoubtedly be captivated by the tango.
