Passion Ignites Within the Silence
"Summer Ending," a novel by Jakucho Setouchi depicting a woman caught between two men, has become a long-seller with over one million copies in print. This mature love story, where a love triangle smolders quietly, is perfectly timed for the "end of summer."
Hikari Mitsushima stars as Tomoko, the protagonist. She is exhausted by her long-standing affair with an unsuccessful writer who has a family, yet remains unfulfilled by the intense desire of a younger man. Mitsushima delivers a powerful performance in this challenging role, portraying a woman tormented by her own desires.
Kaoru Kobayashi plays Shingo, the older man who loves Tomoko and watches over her gently, yet cannot leave his wife. He embodies both tolerance and slyness, showcasing a seasoned, mature performance. Ryota, the younger man who passionately pursues Tomoko, tormented by jealousy and loneliness, is played by Gou Ayano.
The film is directed by Kazuhiro Soda, who made a striking debut with "The Cowards" and has since garnered acclaim for works like "A Gentle Breeze in the Village." Soda masterfully portrays the overflowing passion of the characters within a profound and tranquil world.

Tomoko Begins to Realize Her True Feelings
Tomoko has been living with Shingo, an older writer with a family, for many years. Shingo divides his time equally between his wife's home and Tomoko's. Tomoko had never considered asking Shingo to leave his wife, and believed she was content with this peaceful arrangement.
However, her life begins to subtly unravel when Ryota Kinoshita, a former lover, visits. Ryota was someone Tomoko fell deeply in love with years ago, during her marriage, and ran away with him, leaving her husband and child behind.
While continuing her life with Shingo, Tomoko finds herself drawn back into a relationship with Ryota. Ryota's passionate pursuit soon begins to stir the true feelings that Tomoko had buried deep within her heart, feelings she herself had not even recognized.
Shingo, exuding a quiet sensuality and harboring deep despair, and Ryota, who pursues his love with unwavering devotion despite mistreatment. Tomoko, torn between the two, strives to pursue her own unique form of love. A cast of talented actors vividly brings these distinct characters to life on screen.
