Text by YANAKA Tomomi
Music by Ren Takada, Ending Theme by Haruomi Hosono
"The Tale of the Boxed Son" depicts the love between a shy man and a blind woman, which began with an arranged meeting, and the families surrounding them. Kentaro Amanoshizu (played by Gen Hoshino), an employee at the city hall, is an actor, musician, and writer who endlessly captivates people. This marks his long-awaited first leading role. And Naho, the heroine, who grew up in a wealthy family and is a "boxed daughter" yet exudes a radiant allure, is played by Kaho.
Furthermore, their respective parents are played by accomplished actors such as Sei Hiraizumi, Ryoko Moriyama, Ren Osugi, and Kuroki Hitomi, who brilliantly co-star to create a compelling human drama.
The director and screenwriter is Masahide Ichii, who garnered international attention after winning the Grand Prix at the Pusan International Film Festival for his film "Muboubi" (2008), which was also officially selected for the Berlin International Film Festival.
Additionally, the music was handled by Ren Takada, a multi-stringed instrument player with close ties to YMO and Gen Hoshino, and the ending theme is sung by Haruomi Hosono, one of Gen Hoshino's most respected artists.
Kentaro and Naho, Blind Since Their "Arranged Meeting"
Kentaro Amanoshizu, who works at the city hall, is a single man who has never dated a woman. Introverted and unsociable, he spends his days going back and forth between home and work, with only his pet frog as his friend. His parents, seeing his situation, arrange an "arranged meeting" between their parents to find him a partner, and manage to secure an opportunity for him to formally meet the beautiful only daughter of the wealthy Imai couple, Naho. However, he doesn't know that she is completely blind...
Kentaro experiences his first love after meeting Naho. He explosively expresses his feelings of "liking" her, but unexpected obstacles await the couple.──.
Gen Hoshino delivers an emotional performance as Kentaro, who runs, tumbles, and cries for love. We can feel a new charm in him, and we want to enjoy this moving story of adults who haven't quite grown up.
